There are many grey areas and the Inland Revenue often judges each case on its own merits.The cost of acquiring a yacht charter can, with careful planning, be reduced by arranging for the purchase to be made out of pre-tax income, and ensuring the recovery of VAT, if this tax is applicable to the purchase. For instance, if the yacht has been bought for charter purposes, there should be no problem. Only if the the craft is purchased for the personal use of a director is VAT not reclaimable.
