Using a Basement Sump Pump and Getting Rid Of Mold
I have a friend who owns a house in rural Vermont (as if there were an urban Vermont). This house was rented to a so called contractor who promised to maintain the house and property. As it turns out, he did almost nothing over the course of 4 years, when the first thing he should have done was install a basement sump pump.
The basement had a virtual spring in it and water was everywhere. The mold and mildew was incredible; it was everywhere and the entire house smelled of musty basement odor.
I volunteered to help her fix it up so she could sell it; I was in for more than I bargained for! The contractor had spray painted some paint on water logged wood that had mold and mildew everywhere. That was the extent of his maintenance!
We had to install a French drain, re-grade the yard, install a sump pump in the nasty basement, tear out a lot of water damaged wood and clean everything thoroughly. It took some concentrated effort, but after a few weekends we had it under control.
