Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is one of the commonest causes of mental retardation in unborn children. It is a condition that children of drinking mothers may suffer from. FAS disorder affects the infants whose mothers drink while they are still in their womb. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome inflicted children are born with abnormalities in the nervous system and brain. They might even suffer from physical abnormalities such as receding forehead and chin. However, this is a rare condition. Only one in three infants whose mothers drink over three wine bottles suffers from this disorder.
