A large number of high school diploma holders these days are attracted into dental hygienist programs due to the flexible work schedule enjoyed by a dental hygienist. As specialists in the field of preventative oral health care, dental hygienists can work full-time or part-time, in the evenings or only on weekends. According to surveys, most dental hygienists work only part-time which amounts to less than 35 hours every week. They also have the freedom to work in more than one dental office. This is because dentists usually hire hygienists for only two or three days in a week.
