As a woman approaches the age of the menopause, calcium becomes her best friend. This is because the risk of developing osteoporosis increase as oestrogen levels decrease, and women need to be particularly careful to consume the daily recommended dosage of calcium. If you are postmenopausal and are taking HRT, you should consume at least 700mg of calcium a day. Calcium can be found in milk, yogurt, cheese and other dairy products, but can also be found in fortified fruit juices. It may however, be necessary to use supplements to ensure that the daily recommended dose of calcium is consumed. As the menopause approaches it is vital to ensure your body has all the help it can get.

Posted by Regina,

As a teenager I suffered with one of the eating disorders, that of anorexia. When I was going through a very tough time a school, my eating patterns became very erratic. I would not eat for days at a time, and then when I did eat it would have been an apple and a glass of water. My eating disorder was the result of bullying. I was slightly overweight for my height, and was always conscious of this fact. However, until I was in my mid teens it wasn’t a problem. Then several girls in my year began to comment on my size and I couldn’t cope with it. It was then that my problems began and I became anorexic, one of the more serious forms of eating disorders.

In your efforts to add exercise after back surgery, sometimes it’s difficult to find activities that are fun and still challenging enough for you to want to continue. After all, the number one reason we stop our planned exercise routines is because we become bored with them. For instance, if you are bored with walking around your own neighborhood, try taking a brisk walk a time or two around the mall. You can even walk there when it’s raining! You may want to add a weighted vest to add an added level of difficulty to your walk. Another idea is to walk a dog as you travel around your area. A dog will appreciate the exercise too! Maybe you’re just tired of walking all together; you may want to add something like weight training.

Today there is a lot of excitement in strength sports about antioxidants: the likes of beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and the minerals selenium, copper, zinc, and manganese. It is well known, and well publicized in many a muscle supplement review and guides such as Bodybuilding Revealed, that antioxidants are helpful in fighting “free radicals”, chemicals which are produced naturally by the body which cause irreversible damage – oxidation – to cells. Any free radical damage caused can leave the body vulnerable to advanced aging, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and degenerative diseases such as arthritis. Fortunately a well balanced diet can go some way to providing these antioxidants.

Widespread Confusion Regarding Back Surgery

Medical literature offers this statement regarding the cause of lower back pain: “Even with today’s technology, the exact cause of low back pain can be found in very few cases.” This statement is largely untrue and reflects the widespread confusion regarding the cause of lower back pain in the conventional medical world. The reason for this confusion lies in the non-holistic approach medicine has adopted during the last hundred years. The body is no longer viewed as a whole but rather as an assembly of individual parts. This non-holistic view, combined with the rise of technological advancements, has led to extreme specialization in medicine. While current technologies have provided countless advancements to back surgery, they have done little to ease the pain of millions of lower back pain sufferers.

Latex Sauna Suits Help You Lose Weight

8 January 2010

The latex sauna suit is a suit made of non-breathable latex material that is worn while exercising to mimic the effects of exercising in a sauna. Wearing a latex sauna suit while exercising is said to increase the blood’s circulation, increase the body’s metabolic rate, which burns fat and calories faster. Sauna suits are also believed to release more toxins from the body via the sweat glands because of the increased perspiration. Sauna suits are made from a variety of materials other than latex, including nylon and vinyl.  Many people have an allergic reaction to latex, and could possibly go into shock when they come in contact with the substance. Latex is a rubber that can be made naturally from the rubber tree, but it can also be made synthetically.

High blood pressure is also sometimes known as the silent killer.  Believe it or not, up to 30% of the population is walking around with hypertension at any given time and it is thought by some that up to half of those are unaware that they have it.  This can lead to a lot of problems that are very serious in nature.  For example, strokes, heart attacks and other serious problems could occur if you were unaware that you had high blood pressure and continue to allow it to remain that way.  Having it checked on a regular basis is the only way for you to know for sure if you have it or not.

Posted by Shanelle,

We have been told for many years by doctors that too much exposure to the sun can cause cancer and will accelerate the wrinkling process. Many of us did not heed the warning, at least not initially, and now we are showing the signs of that on our faces. Fortunately, in the interim, an industry has developed to create the products and procedures necessary to help us reduce the signs of aging and sun-weathered skin. Skin treatment for wrinkles comes in the form of creams and ointments, as well surgical, both traditional and laser. As always, it is helpful to consult a doctor when considering your options for wrinkle treatment.
