A job in the entertainment business can be a lot of fun, but many people don’t realize how much work it entails. Whether you want to be an actor on the big screen or a director or producer behind the scenes, you will have to claw and fight to get into the loop. Once you do, you can count on countless 12 hours, so it better be something you love doing. I’ve got the acting bug — It’s fun, it really is. Acting can be very rewarding and a lot of fun. You need to start acting in anything you can as soon as you can. It will only help you in the long run. A head-shot and resume are in your future as well and there are many different books and web sites that can help you with that. BackStage West has a great listing of fims you cam auduton for. Stick to the student section. Most students will actually get there film made because there grade depends on it and they have the resources from the school to make things happen. You never know with a non-union, independent gig.
Film schools always have a bunch of students looking for actors. Go there and hook up with these guys, The are the next genaertion of film makers. Work for them for free and be friend them. You may jsut get a part when they start working in the big leagues.
Acting clesses in LA and New York are usually taught by former actors. Tehy don\’t always have there pulse on the industry at the time unless they work with the top agentsand actors. Go to class to learn, network secind.
I took a couple of college classes, but went straightto hollywood to learn from the horses mouth. Either way is good I guess. Probably more rounded in the whole field at college. And you may actually get some \’ins\’ through your theater program.
Yale, Harvard, NYU are the best and most well known. If you can get in there you will be hanging out with the most dedicated film people and people that are truly serious. Not to say that other are not, because most people don\’t get in there, but you will meet some really connected people.
All classes are not created equal. What works for one person, amy not help the next out in anyway. Try different classes and you will find what finds right for you. Be true to yourself.
I chose regular acting classes in Hollywood as opposed getting a theater degree. I think if I had to do it over and knew what I wanted to do sooner, I would have done the college route. Life long friends and contacts.
