Where Do You Get Good Pillows These Days

17 December 2009

Posted by Freddy,

It is a waste of time buying the most comfortable bed you can find and buying really comfortable duvets and everything else if you don’t then go out and make sure you have good pillows.  The truth is that everything else to do with the bed could be all wrong but as long as you have the right pillows that offer you the right support in just the right places, then things will probably be fine and you will probably have a very good nights sleep.  You can search online for these pillows but realistically the best place is to go into a store and try them out, otherwise you won’t get a proper feel for them.

Windows Need Replacing

15 December 2009

Posted by Karl,

The was an addition added to our house about 20 years ago and the must have put really cheap windows in because not matter how much we insulate, there is still a draft.  The only thing we can figure out is that the windows are really bad. I think that wood replacement windows would be better than the vinyl ones  that are in there now.  They appear to be warped for lack of a better word.  I didn’t know that windows could warp like that.  The replacement windows we are looking at have a 20 year warranty so I think they will be great.

Getting the Faucets all collected

Posted by Carmelo,

I am getting all the kitchen and bath faucets I need to to have to redo the old house.  That is 10 I think. 5 sinks, 3 tubs and  2 extra faucets for the outside garage sinks.  They don’t have to be fancy. I have found some really good deals around town and on the internet.  It looks like I can get a few groups that will even match for the 3 bathrooms.  I gues one is really a shower not a complete tub.  I love the brass and the copper ones and hopefully will have the money for them all soon.

The Little House

Posted by Olive,

We have a little shed we made into a cabin for an extra office. We had an office in the house but when both of us started working at home we decided that one of us needed to be elsewhere.  So we named the cabin, “the little House” next to the “big House”.  The wood storage building we converted into the office didn’t cost that much money and it works great with both of us having our own space.  We had electrical already out there and put in a corn burning stove for heat.  It is really a great addition to our property.

Electrical Discharge Machining and Mold Repair

Every injection mold eventually needs to be repaired, and the electrical discharge machine, or EDM, is very often the machine tool of choice to do the repair.

Some shops have a dedicated repair department to handle the demand from the production area, others just fit the repairs in as needed. The EDM department is typically quite busy and the machines are running almost 24/7, therefore mold repair tends to take a back seat to the new tooling.

This always causes a conflict because the production needs the mold fixed right now, but the EDM is too busy! If it can be squeezed in, fine, but another solution is to keep an older machine on hand just for repairs. Sometimes this could even be a manual machine, instead of a CNC.

Because most electrodes are machined on a high speed machining center and held on precision tooling, such as Erowa or System 3R, it is relatively easy to make new electrodes to do the repair. In the event that the old electrodes are usuable and in storage, great!

Once the damaged or worn mold is laser or micro welded, then EDM’d, it must be hand polished and refitted into the mold to be exactly like the original. This is somewhat of an art and requires considerable skill, knowing what to do and what not to do takes experience and understanding of what is important.

Randy Hough has a website, http://completeedm.com, that talks about electrical discharge machine

Before the snow comes

I have one major outside job to do before winter really sets in. That is, get the garage in better order. At least I can get the car in, which is more than most neighbors can. But it does not pass my wife’s quality control standards, especially as it’s most of my stuff she trips over! So I’ve been reviewing garage shelves online to see what’s best for us. I’m pleasantly surprised to see such a good choice. In fact, had I looked a couple of months ago I would have been tempted with a modern overhead storage system. But no time now, I must just get some more shelves up by next weekend. Snow’s forecast for then.

Getting Organized With Wardrobe Closets

Our house is almost 100 years old, and the closets are just too small for all the stuff we have to hang in them. I picked up several wardrobe closets – one for each bedroom – and these have made a huge difference in the liveability of our house. We don’t have stuff piled all over the bedrooms anymore, and the wardrobes are an antique looking design that fit in perfectly with the rest of the house. The only thing I would like is to have more hanging space, but I suppose I could always pick up another couple of these wardrobe closets and use them in other rooms too.

What is a Wood Pellet Stove?

8 December 2009

You’ve probably heard of a wood stove but what is a wood pellet stove? Basically, a wood pellet stove is a speciallzed wood stove that burns pellets made from compressed saw dust. While not as quaint and cozy as a burning log, wood pellets are much easier to handle and burn very efficiently.  You can buy them in large bags at certain hardware and home stores.  Pellet stoves can be inside like a regular wood stove, but there are exteriior models for heating the whole house.

GIST and Gleevec

6 December 2009

If have just been diagnosed with GIST and your are facing cancer now, look into the research done with Gleevec.  It might just be the answer you are looking for.  Look to MD Anderson and Winship in Atlanta for answers.

Lighting up the side walk

6 December 2009

I have to light up the walk way up to the house. I think a lighted walk way would really look neat and be safer. Solar yard lights  seem like a good option. It will save money too.
